Beer is a drink that is either adored or hated. You can find many different types of beer on the market, made from different ingredients, and served in different styles. As beer is a type of alcoholic beverage, the majority of people try to avoid its consumption because big amounts of it can cause obesity, liver issues, anxiety, alcohol addiction, and others. And they are absolutely right! Yet, when you consume the right doses beer is not dangerous to the health but is even beneficial for our wellbeing.
Let’s get started!

It may be surprising, but beer is actually a beauty ingredient! It is used in a number of skin-care and hair nourishing products, because of its beneficial properties. What is more, it has many uses in personal care cosmetics, as it provides many beauty benefits:
Beer contains silica. This is a specific mineral that is known to be key for beautiful, thick, and voluminous hair. It stimulates the hair growth and strengthens the follicles so that the new hair is strong, shiny, and thick, as at the same time, helps to balance out the activity of the sebaceous follicles in the scalp.
Many specialists recommend beer rinse as a solution to get rid of dull hair, lacking volume. Just wash your hair with shampoo as usual, but instead of rinsing the foam with water, use beer. Let it sit for 10 minutes and rinse hair with water as usual.
Here, it is important to mention that strong, sweet, or dark beers are not suitable for beer rinse, as they may leave a residual odor or texture on your hair. It is best to use leger beer. This way, you will not make a mistake.
Balances protein in hair
Beer contains tons of proteins that are beneficial to the hair. The reason for this is the fact that hops and malt (the main ingredients of beer) are full of protein, which interacts with the hair to restore its protein-moisture balance. We have already talked in another article about the ways to identify if your hair has lost its protein balance, but let’s see have a recap.
How to identify is your hair lacks protein? There is a quick test that you can do. Take a single hair from your head and pull it like you try to break it in two. If you face difficulty in breaking the hair because it is very elastic, then most probably it is in lack of protein. This type of hair often feels heavy and oily and is prone to product buildup. It is extremely difficult to style.
To compensate for the lack of protein, use products with high protein content (e.g., keratin), avoid deep conditioners and oil-based products. Beer based products (and the beer rinse showed in the previous section) are a great choice to supply your hair with naturally derived protein, which will make your hair beautiful, shiny, strong, and healthy.
Act as an antioxidant for skin
According to various studies, beer is very rich in polyphenols, due to its main ingredients: hops, barley, and brewer’s yeast. Those plant compounds have the property of protecting the skin from ultraviolet light, pollution, oxidative stress, and other free radicals damage.
As a result, they improve cell turnover and help the skin to get rid of any damaged or dead cells. This way, the proper beer consumption can help the skin to look younger from the inside by diminishing the signs of aging, pigmentation, dullness, and others.
Gets rid of skin impurities
The polyphenols in beer offer one other remarkable benefit to the skin: they help it to get rid of all kinds of impurities, by reducing inflammation, balancing the sebum production, stimulating natural exfoliation and acting as antibacterial agents.
The polyphenols, together with various vitamins from the B group (also found in beer), help you to get rid of various acne conditions, as well as flaky patches, redness, itchiness, and make your skin smoother and well-nourished from inside.
